Time for Wine
Tomorrow is Earth Day! Here are some tips for being a “greener” wine drinker to encourage a sustainable world.
Organic Wine. Although there are a fairly small amount of options, you can select a wine made from organically grown grapes without any added sulfites. These are the wines that are certified as organic. There are also wines that are just made from organically grown grapes but are not certified organic.
Buy wine local. Choose local if you live near good vineyards. For those who don’t, check out Grist’s helpful map to determine carbon content of wine from different parts of the world. If you live to the East, drink European wines. To the west, choose those made in California or Oregon.
Recycle. There are many crafty things one can do with an empty wine bottle. However, if you don’t want to do anything else with your bottle, make sure you recycle it. Find out when recycling day is in your community, and be sure to put your bottles out. In some states, you can even get money back for recycling!

Wine Festival Dinner - Duckhorn Vineyards
On Wednesday, May 5, join us in welcoming the current winemaker from Duckhorn Vineyards, Bill Nancarrow! Duckhorn Vineyards is well known to most that enjoy distinctive wines. Founded by Dan and Margaret Duckhorn in the late seventies, Duckhorn has crafted a tradition of quality and excellence that continues to this day!
Duckhorn has always been known for it’s sumptuous Merlot and we will be sampling the newer Estate and Napa selections before tasting the single vineyard offerings from 1993 and 1998! Bill Nancarrow is a native of New Zealand and worked there as a winemaker until deciding to travel to the northern hemisphere to work with one of California’s top Merlot producers. He joined Duckhorn for the 2001 harvest, became the winemaker at Parradux in 2003 and was promoted to executive winemaker for all of Duckhorn in 2007!
